Get your TV connected, and fix it if it will not.
Set up your TV
- Switch the TV on, and connect your iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
- Open Telly Remote and tap Find TVs. When iOS asks for Local Network access, choose Allow.
- Choose your TV from the list. A prompt appears on the TV. Using the TV's own remote, select Accept. You only need to do this once for each TV.
- Press a button on the remote screen. If the TV responds, you are set. Touch and hold any shortcut button to change what it does.
Telly Remote works with LG TVs and projectors that run webOS, CineBeam projectors included, and with Samsung Smart TVs. It needs an iPhone or iPad running iOS 26 or later.
Switch the TV on from your phone
A TV in standby can be woken over Wi-Fi, but only if it is set to allow it.
- LG: open the TV's settings and turn on TV On With Mobile (also called Turn on via Wi-Fi). It is usually under General, then Devices.
- Samsung: open the TV's settings and turn on Power On with Mobile. It is usually under General, then Network, then Expert Settings.
Menu names change between models and years, so use the TV's settings search if you cannot find it. The TV needs to be in standby, not switched off at the wall, and it needs to be on the same network as your phone.
If something is not working
The TV is not found
- Check the TV is switched on, not in standby, and that your phone and the TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. A guest network or a second router can put them on different networks.
- In the iOS Settings app, go to Privacy and Security, then Local Network, and make sure Telly Remote is switched on.
- Turn off any VPN on your phone, and check your router does not have client isolation switched on.
- If it is still not found, add the TV by its address. You can find the address in the TV's network settings.
No prompt appears on the TV
Give it a few seconds, then try again. The prompt appears on the TV's screen, and you answer it with the TV's own remote. If you dismissed it, choose your TV again in Telly Remote to try again.
Power on does not work
Check that TV On With Mobile (Samsung: Power On with Mobile) is turned on in the TV's settings, that the TV is in standby and not switched off at the wall, and that it is on the same network as your phone.
Picture mode will not change
Some newer TV software refuses picture mode changes from outside apps. The rest of the remote still works, and you can change picture mode with the TV's own remote.
Play and pause shows the wrong state
Telly Remote shows Pause while the TV reports media playing and Play while it is paused. Some apps and older TV software do not report this, so the button swaps between the two each time you press it.
The lock screen remote or Control Centre controls are missing
Check that Live Activities are allowed for Telly Remote in the iOS Settings app, and that the lock screen controls option is on in Telly Remote's own settings. Add the TV Power and TV Button controls from Control Centre's edit screen.
Siri does not know my TV's apps or buttons
Siri learns them after you have connected a TV and opened the app. Open Telly Remote once with the TV on, then try again. You can also build the same requests in the Shortcuts app.
I want to remove a TV
Remove it from the TV list in Telly Remote. That also deletes the TV's pairing key from your iPhone or iPad.
Purchases and refunds
Telly Remote is bought through the App Store, and Apple handles payments and refunds. To ask for a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple account. To get the app on another device, download it again from your purchased apps in the App Store.
